We first discovered Jean Jacques Girard with the 2008 vintage of this same wine. The 90 point score given to the 2008 by Allen Meadows, the Burghound, caught our eye. We bought all we could, and it didn’t last all that long in the store. We pre-ordered the 2009 almost immediately upon selling out of the 2008.
The 2009 Jean Jacques Girard Savigny les Beaune Les Lavieres recently did get reviewed by the Burghound, and this time it received a 92 point score along with Allen’s high praise, “Sweet Spot - Outstanding” added to the tasting note. With the 92 point score, the 2009 Savigny les Beaune Les Lavieres was his best value premier cru red Burgundy!
Savigny les Beaune is sandwiched between Beaune and the Grand Cru vineyards of Corton. Because of this, the wines are sometimes unfairly overlooked, but luckily for you, in turn, they offer tremendous value! The vines for the Jean Jacques Les Lavieres are an average of 50 years old.

Burghound 92 Points Sweet Spot - Outstanding-- While not the most elegant wine in the range, this is the most complex with a superb nose of blue berry liqueur, spiced plum and stone. The very ripe yet fresh flavors are at once energetic and seductive, all wrapped in a firm, minerally and beautifully well-balanced finish. Lovely juice.
