Wine Spectator’s Highest Rated 2007 Barbaresco Under $50!

2007 Moccagatta Barbaresco Basarin
Lowest Price in the Country!

There has been great anticipation for the arrival of the 2007 Barolos, with the many comparisons to the outstanding 2000 vintage, known for its early drinkability and soft tannin structure. There’s another region in Piedmont, that’s often overlooked, called Barbaresco that makes world class wines with the same Nebbiolo grape as Barolo. Barbarescos are generally released a year earlier and often are more flamboyant in style compared to Barolo, with sweeter fruit and tannins.

We’ve got one of the best from 2007 at a great price. The 2007 Moccagatta Barbaresco Basarin is just $39.99 per bottle. The Wine Spectator awarded it 95 points making it the highest rated 2007 Barbaresco under $50!

The Moccagatta Barbaresco Basarin is sourced from Nebbiolo vineyards with 40+ year old vines with a south-facing exposure at an altitude of about 800 feet, and then vinified by Franco and Sergio Minuto to be the most forward and approachable of their three legendary Barbarescos.

We have the 2007 Moccagatta Barbaresco Basarin for you at 39.99 per bottle, which is the lowest price in the country!

Wine Spectator 95 Points

"With a touch of oak adding sweetness and spice, this red is totally seductive, from the floral, cherry and licorice aromas and flavors to the supple texture and harmony to the lingering aftertaste of sweet fruit and spice. Ripe and charming, with a soft feel to the dense tannins. Best from 2013 through 2032. 833 cases made."-BS

Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 92 Points

"The 2007 Barbaresco Basarin flows across the palate with elegant layers of perfumed fruit. Silky tannins frame the round fruit through to the long, generous finish. This isn’t the last word in complexity, but it is one of the most flat-out delicious 2007 Barbareschi I tasted. Floral, minty notes add complexity on the finish. The Basarin is a great choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so, but it will be even better in another year or two, once the French oak integrates a bit more. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2022. This is a beautiful set of wines from the Minuto brothers. The wines show terrific balance and harmony."

Highly Rated German Riesling From Iconic Producer J J Prum

2009 J J Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese
$1 per Bottle Shipping on Six or More

One of the most, if not the most, famous producer in the Mosel region of Germany is Johann Josef Prum, more commonly known as J J Prum. The J J Prum estate has holdings in premier vineyard sites throughout the Mosel, but the vineyard of Sonnenuhr arguably is their best.

Sited just across the Mosel River from the town of Wehlen and named for the giant sundial that serves as the town clock of Wehlen, Sonnenuhr is situated, like the best vineyards in the Mosel, on steep hillsides with plenty of stone and slate surrounding the vines.

We just came across a nice offering on the 2009 J J Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese that received 96 points in the Wine Spectator. This is its highest score from the Wine Spectator since the 2005 vintage which ranked #14 in the their Top 100 list that year.

This is an intense German Riesling that will surely not disappoint if you drink it now but the 2009 J J Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese would be even better if you give it a few years to mature in the bottle. It should even last another 20 years!

Today's deal is $39.98 per bottle with $1 per bottle shipping on six or more!

Wine Spectator 96 Points

"Pure, precise and fresh-tasting, with an intense clarity to the apple, pear and tangerine flavors that feature notes of slate and vanilla. The crystalline finish is long, pure and precise, with hints of smoke and anise. Best from 2014 through 2040."-KM

Our Hottest Selling California Red Blend In The Stores

2009 "The Culprit" Red
Free Shipping on Six or More!
PLUS $24 off Coupon Per Case, Valid Through Sunday October 9th!

One of our latest discoveries is a great California red called "The Culprit" which is blended from a whole kitchen sink of varietals, much like Orin Swift’s "The Prisoner". The better news is that it’s half the price of the Prisoner, and you'd be hard pressed to find nearly that much of a difference in the quality.

Our first shipment with 200 cases of 2009 "The Culprit" arrived at the beginning of the summer and did not last long, selling out by the middle of August. We had to double up our order this time to make sure we had enough to let our entire email list know about the hottest red blend in the store.

The 2009 "The Culprit" is a blend predominantly of Syrah, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah, with six other varietals thrown into the mix to give it plenty of complexity. This is a big, bold, and intense wine!

The price for 2009 "The Culprit" is $14.99 per bottle with Free Shipping on any order of six or more bottles, and as a bonus we’re offering a $24 coupon off per Case, valid through October 9th! Be sure to enter the coupon code – 24OFFCULPRIT during checkout.

Jon Visser, Wine Buyer 4 Stars

"Dark raspberries on the nose. Very rich and concentrated with raspberries and blackberries on the mid-palate, some toasty oak, with blueberries and silky tannins coming through on the long finish. This is very good for just $14.99!"

The Critics Agree On This Outstanding Chardonnay

2010 Hamilton Russell Chardonnay
$1 per Bottle Shipping on Six or More

The rave reviews keep coming in for Hamilton Russell Chardonnay. This is a South African Chardonnay that drinks like a cross between a top notch Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and a fine white Burgundy.

Stephen Tanzer, known to be a highly critical reviewer, rated the previous two vintages at 92 points, and in both cases referenced a similarity to Burgundy with comments such as “minerality that reminded me of Chardonnay from the Meursault/Puligny district” and “like a hypothetical blend of Meursault and Chassagne.”

The Wine Spectator has rated each of the last nine vintages of Hamilton Russell Chardonnay at 90 points or higher. The Wine Advocate rated the last two vintages with 92 points or better, and recently they awarded the 2010 Hamilton Russell Chardonnay a 93 point rating!

It’s not just getting attention with the American critics either. We held a dinner last Fall with Thierry Pillot, winemaker at Domaine Paul Pillot in Chassagne Montrachet, and he commented that he noticed Hamilton Russell Chardonnay on our shelves and told us he thinks it’s outstanding!

2010 Hamilton Russell Chardonnay, a truly outstanding 93 point Chardonnay for $23.99 per bottle with $1 per bottle shipping on six or more!

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate 93 Points

"Raised in 35% new oak barrels, the 2010 Chardonnay is more reserved than the 2009 but retains very fine delineation with hints of grapefruit and nectarine. The palate has a very attractive hazelnut and lanolin-tinged entry. It has wonderful definition and a taut, citrus finish that is long in the mouth. Try to resist temptation and cellar this for several years. Drink 2012-2020."

Tanzer’s Best Value Red Burgundy From 2009 Vintage

2009 Cornu-Camus Pernand Vergelesses
$1 per Bottle Shipping on Six or More

Our latest arrival from Burgundy’s much heralded 2009 vintage may be the best value we’ve discovered thus far. It is the Domaine Cornu-Camus Pernand Vergelesses. The village of Pernand Vergelesses is tucked in a small valley just behind the famous hill of Corton, home all of the Grand Cru red vineyards of the Cote de Beaune.

Possessing nice clean red fruit, elegance, and good mineral character, the 2009 Cornu-Camus Pernand Vergelesses is an exceptional value. You could cellar the wine 2-4 years, but we think it’s drinking so well right now that you’ll have a difficult time leaving the bottles alone that long.

The 2009 Cornu-Camus Pernand Vergelesses is Stephen Tanzer’s highest rated 2009 Red Burgundy under $50. In fact, it’s the highest rated Red Burgundy under $50 that he has ever reviewed. It’s a testament to just how good this Pernand Vergelesses really is!

A super value, we are offering the 2009 Cornu-Camus Pernand Vergelesses at just $21.99 per bottle. Plus, we’ve thrown in reduced shipping on six or more bottles!

Steven Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 91 Points

"Good bright medium red. Superripe aromas of maraschino cherry and cinnamon lifted by a note of rose petal. Sweet, lush and fine-grained, with a solid core of sappy cherry and raspberry fruit brightened by energetic minerality. Displays the flamboyant ripeness of the vintage without going over the top. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and lingering spice and red fruit notes. You can easily spend $30 these days for mere Bourgogne rouge."

Great Value Premier Cru White Burgundy for $19.99

2008 Jean-Marc Boillot Montagny Premier Cru
$1 per Bottle Shipping on Six, Free Shipping on Case

Some of the best values in white Burgundy these days are those coming from the Cote Chalonnaise region, located just south and west of Cote de Beaune appellations of St Aubin, Chassagne Montrachet, and Puligny Montrachet.

We’ve got one of those values from the Cote Chalonnaise region from Jean-Marc Boillot, a favorite producer of ours. The wine we are talking about is the 2008 Jean-Marc Boillot Montagny Premier Cru.

This Premier Cru Montagny nearly has the feel of Chassagne Montrachet with it’s richness, but finishes with the stony minerality and lemony citrus character that you generally find in Montagny. Montagny is often called the “Chablis of the South” for this reason.

The 2008 Jean-Marc Boillot Montagny Premier Cru is a bargain for a Premier Cru white at a price of just 19.99 per bottle, with $1 per bottle shipping on six and Free Shipping on a Case!

Jon Visser Wine Buyer 4 stars

"Ripe tropical fruit falvors on the nose. On the palate there is plenty of richness from the malolactic fermentation. The fruit though is more of a lemony-citrus with stony minerality. A tremendous value for a premier cru white Burgundy at 19.99!"

Great Value Sauvignon Blanc From Chile

2010 Casa Julia Sauvignon Blanc
$1 per Bottle Shipping on 6, Free Shipping on Case

The search for a quality Sauvignon Blanc under $10 is always a difficult task. For this reason we recently picked out a number of inexpensive Sauvignon Blancs from around the world to taste in hopes of finding a few quality ones.

What we discovered, which is no surprise, was that the best values seemed to be from Chile and New Zealand. Most of the New Zealand wines fell in the $10-15 range though. The Chileans were very reasonably priced below the $10 mark. The best of the group was the 2010 Casa Julia Sauvignon Blanc.

The 2010 Casa Julia Sauvignon Blanc displayed ripe honeydew melon and pear with a very soft and supple finish. It was just a perfect summer white wine, a fruit driven styled Sauvignon Blanc with a smooth finish. Josh Raynolds of the International Wine Cellar agreed with us, rating it 88 points!

Very well made Sauvignon Blanc for a bargain price at $7.99 per bottle, with $1 per bottle shipping on six and Free Shipping on a Case!

Josh Raynolds International Wine Cellar 88 Points-- Pale straw. Fresh pear, melon and quinine on the nose. Dry and nervy on entry, then fleshier in the middle, displaying chewy orchard fruit flavors and a sweet melon nuance. Nicely plump but focused, with good closing breadth and sappiness.

Mas Doix Salanques is among the very best Spanish reds under $25 every vintage and even holds its own with wines over $25 right up to $50! How did the 2007 stack up? Jay Miller Wine Advocate 93 Points-- The purple-colored 2007 Salanques is composed of 65% Garnacha, 15% Carinena, and the balance Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 14 months in French oak. Aromas of Asian spices, incense, mineral, plum and black cherry are followed by a plush, opulent, pleasure-bent Priorat that delivers awesome value for this pricy DO. The Critics Are All Raving About This Washington Syrah

2007 Rasa QED Syrah Walla Walla
Free Shipping on Three or More, PLUS $36 off Coupon on Six!

Everyone has heard of the world class Syrahs from Cayuse in Walla Walla Valley, Washington, who came onto the scene in 1998. Their first reviews from the Wine Spectator and the Wine Advocate were 93 and 87 respectively. Today, everything seems to be 95-98 points.

Now, the new and hot winery on the scene in Washington is Rasa Vineyards. Their 2007 Rasa QED Syrah really impressed us recently in a tasting. Only 640 cases produced. Ultra-ripe and concentrated with great length and finesse on the finish.

The 2007 QED Syrah is their inaugural wine and they’ve made quite a statement with the level of quality! The critics have agreed as well with scores of 94 in the Wine Spectator, 94 in the Wine Enthusiast, 93 in the Wine Advocate, 93 in the Rhone Report, and 91 from the International Wine Cellar.

2007 Rasa QED Syrah is destined for greatness much like Cayuse with its early reviews from the critics! $39.99 per bottle with Free Shipping on 3 bottles. As a bonus we’re offering a coupon for $36 off on just six bottles using the coupon code 36OFFQED. If you want more than six, just use coupon code 15PERCENTOFFQED and you will get the same $6 off every bottle whether you want 7, 8, 9, or more! These special coupons are only valid through Sunday, July 24.

Wine Spectator 94 Points-- Supple, complex and distinctive for its black olive and mineral character, all wrapped in a blanket of ripe blackberry fruit and nappy tannins, persisting impressively on the long, vibrant finish. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Best from 2012 through 2017. 640 cases made. –HS

Jay Miller, Wine Advocate 93 Points-- The first release, the 2007 QED is made up of 94% Syrah, 3% Grenache, and 3% Mourvedre sourced from several top vineyards. It was aged in 25% new French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up a classy nose of pepper, mineral, smoked meat, game, spice box, and blueberry. This leads to a mouth-filling, intense, super-concentrated, opulent wine that has enough underlying structure to evolve for 3-4 years. It will deliver much pleasure through 2022 if not longer. This is a very fine debut indeed!

RP 92-95+ and and Extraordinary Value Chateauneuf

2009 Domaine La Milliere Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes

Free Shipping on Six or More, PLUS $36 off Coupon on a Case!

2009 in the southern Rhone is yet another strong vintage. It may not quite eclipse the 2007 vintage, but 2009 is regarded as an excellent vintage, as it was in most of France and Europe for that matter. One of the best 2009 southern Rhones we’ve tasted so far is the Domaine la Milliere Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes.

The 2009 Domaine la Milliere Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is a more explosive style than previous vintages of the same wine. The 2009 has a lot more concentration, structure, and will have greater longevity in the cellar.

Robert Parker mentioned in his tasting note that it is “Dense, thick and rich, it is potentially one of the few 2009 Chateauneuf du Papes that will eclipse its 2007 counterpart.” He gave a rating of 92-95+ to the 2009 Domaine la Milliere. The plus added onto the score means he believes that the wine may possibly develop into a 96 point wine in the future. His 92-95+ rating for a 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape was the highest score given to one under $40.

We’re offering the 2009 Domaine la Milliere today at 39.98 per bottle with Free Shipping on six bottles or more plus a bonus coupon of $36 off on a Case of 12 when you use the coupon code 36OFFCASE.

Robert Parker 92-95+ Points-- The stunning 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (from 80-100+ year old vines) gives some credibility to the vignerons’ arguments that in the drought-stricken 2009 growing season, the northern Chateauneuf du Pape parcels were less impacted than those in the south. Domaine La Milliere's vineyards are all in the northern sector. The deep ruby/purple-hued 2009 possesses abundant blackberry, black cherry and cassis fruit intermixed with notions of camphor, truffles, garrigue and licorice. Dense, thick and rich, it is potentially one of the few 2009 Chateauneuf du Papes that will eclipse its 2007 counterpart. An opulent, voluptuous texture, long finish and heady combination of herbs and super-concentrated fruit make for a wine that can be drunk upon release or cellared for 12-15 years.
