WS 91pt Big and Rich Syrah for a Porterhouse Steak from GarysWine.com

  • 91 point Syrah for $20 from Mas du Soleilla!
  • Only at Gary's!
  • Free Shipping on a Six Pack

For years, the Languedoc-Roussillon of sun-drenched Southern France was in a real rut. Prices on their wines were low, and reputations were often lower. The few producers who were making fantastic wine (and yes, some have been there all along) found it hard to get anyone to pay attention. But in the mid-1990's, the press began to notice, awarding the best wines of the Languedoc with high scores. Mas du Soleilla was one such winery; a successful, shining example of just how good the red wines of the Languedoc could be. And at $20, you simply don't find many other Syrahs anywhere in the world that can compete with their Petit Mars bottling.

Phil Unger, one of our French wine specialists, made this his pick as part of our August Wine of the Month in which wine staff from our three stores each picked a wine. He loves how these big, rich wines go so well with his favorite barbecued meats like lamb and Porterhouse steak, as well as aged sheepsmilk cheese like Abbaye de Belloc.

Free Shipping on Wine - 2007 Chateau Ste Michelle Chardonnay Canoe Ridge

2007 Chateau Ste Michelle Chardonnay Canoe Ridge

-- Single Vineyard Chardonnay under $17
-- Other wine shops are selling this for over $19-25
-- Gary's price is only $16.01 On Sale!
-- Free Shipping on a Case and Reduced Shipping on 6-Pack
-- Drinkable Right Now For Summer 2009

It's not often that we can put a single-vineyard Chardonnay on the shelf for under $20. But that's exactly what we found when we tasted one recently from Washington's largest winery, Chateau Ste Michelle. The previous vintage scored 90 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate so we wanted to see how the 2007 was since the price was so attractive.

The 2007 lived up to the 2006 Wine Advocate 90 point score. A rich Chardonnay with great balance and weight, it carries plenty of fruit and a little spice from the oak. This could easily match up to grilled salmon or even roasted chicken.

The Canoe Ridge Estate lies on the north bank of the Columbia River, protecting it from extreme temperatures and allowing even ripening. The wine is aged in French oak and bottled unfiltered.

QPR red under $10 from amazing 2007 vintage

2007 Cote 125 Corbieres

By now I think we, along with many of our customers, know just how great a vintage 2007 was for the Southern Rhone Valley in France. But that greatness also carries over to the wines of the Languedoc region, which is not too far from the Rhone Valley.

Our latest discovery from the 2007 vintage is the 2007 Cote 125 Corbieres, which delivers tremendous quality for the money. In fact, Michel Tardieu (Rhone) and Dominique Laurent (Burgundy producer) are helping to keep the quality at a high level.

A terrific everyday red blend from the South of France (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre and Carignan), this medium-bodied wine carries notes of currant, black pepper, and a little bit of earth to compliment marinated, spice-rubbed, or peppercorn-encrusted steaks and meats.

Another great zinfandel for under $25: WS 92 pt 2007 Mauritson Zinfandel Dry Creek w/ Free Shipping on a case

2007 Mauritson Zinfandel Dry Creek

Last week, we offered the 2006 Ridge Zinfandel York Creek for the insanely low price of $19.99 per bottle, the lowest price in the country. We
knew we were on to something when you demanded more of the Ridge. So, we decided to offer up another zinfandel for you. This time, we have the 2007 Mauritson Zinfandel Dry Creek for $21.99. According to Robert Parker, the source of 40% of the grapes, Rockpile Ridge, is "one of the finest Zinfandel sites in Northern California." This is definitely reflected in the 92 point rating Wine Spectator gave it as well. So not only do we have a great zinfandel at a great price, but we also have free shipping when you purchase a case. So, get it before it goes the way of last week's Zinfandel deal.

93 and 95 point Brunellos: $1 per bottle shipping with purchase of a mixed case

2004 Collelceto Brunello di Montalcino and 2004 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino and 2004 Brunello Mixed Case

A few months ago, we were talking about the '04 Brunellos and how much we were looking forward to getting them in stock. The Collelceto and the Il Poggione were both on our list. We knew they were going to be huge hits, validated by Wine Advocate's scores of 93 and 95 points respectively. We have about 400 bottles of each, so get your hands on one. Not sure which one to get? Put together a mixed case and get $1 per bottle shipping.

Reviews: 2004 Collelceto Brunello di Montalcino-93 Points, Wine Advocate

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino reveals superior clarity and delineation in its black cherries, violets, licorice, spices and new leather in a style that artfully balances a very ripe expression of fruit with firm structure. This vibrant Brunello offers terrific length and compelling inner perfume that never trails off. The tannins build on the finish, so a few additional years of bottle age seem prudent. This is a superb effort from proprietor Elia Palazzesi and may very well be his finest wine yet. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.

2004 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino-95 Points, Wine Advocate

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is awesome. This finessed, regal Brunello flows onto the palate with seamless layers of perfumed fruit framed by silky, finessed tannins. The wine remains extremely primary at this stage, and its full range of aromas and flavors have yet to emerge, but the sheer pedigree of this Brunello is unmistakable. The elegant, refined finish lasts an eternity, and subtle notes of menthol, spices, licorice and leather add final notes of complexity. The estate's 2004 Brunello is a wine to buy and bury in the deepest corner of the cellar. Brunello is never inexpensive, but this is the real deal, and in relative terms, it is one of the world's great values in fine, cellar worthy wine. Incredibly, there are 18,000+ cases of the 2004 Brunello, so it should be fairly easy to source in various markets. The Brunello is made from four vineyards ranging from 250 to 400 meters in altitude, all in Sant'Angelo in Colle. The wines from the various vineyards were aged separately in French oak casks prior to being assembled and bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2034.
