According to the Wine Advocate, the top Chilean red wine under $50 from 2007 was the Montes Purple Angel. They reviewed over 240 Chilean red wines from the 2007 vintage. We're not surprised. The wine is outstanding!

The 2007 Montes Purple Angel is dark, almost black, in color. Ultra rich and super-concentrated. Blackberry, cassis, and some really nice spiciness that you find in Carmenere. Very ripe Carmenere as well. Even though it sees 18 months in oak, it is not overly oaked, and the oak is integrated beautifully. Amazingly balanced and a long finish with sweet fruit.

Wine Spectator 94 Points -- The 2007 Purple Angel is a blend of Carmenere and Petit Verdot that might be the only competition for Terrunyo's Carmin de Peumo for top Carmenere-based wine in Chile . Purple/black in color, it displays a splendid nose of exotic spices, herbs, lavender, incense, blueberry, and blackberry. Dense, chewy, and opulent on the palate, this is a rich, already complex offering that is meant strictly for pleasure-seekers. Enjoy it from 2013-2022.

Poggio Il Castellare is certainly making a name for itself in Tuscany lately. In 2009, their 2004 Brunello di Montalcino ranked as the #11 wine in the Wine Spectator's Top 100. Buy Wine 2006 Pittacum Bierzo at Gary's Wine & Marketplace NJ Wine Store

Among The WS Highest Rated Spanish Reds In 2010
$1/btl Shipping on a 6-Pack, Free Shipping on Cases

In 2010 the Wine Spectator's highest rated Spanish red under $25 was the 2004 Vina Mayor Reserva. The second highest, only missing by one point, was the 92 point 2006 Pittacum Bierzo. We've tasted both and, to be honest, this may be the better wine.

Bierzo doesn't get the same attention as wines from better known regions like Rioja and Ribera del Duero. 9 out of 10 people would select a Rioja or Ribera del Duero before they would try a Bierzo. After tasting the 2006 Pittacum Bierzo, though, that proportion would change in a hurry.

The Wine Spectator certainly realized that, scoring the Pittacum higher than 58 out of 60 Ribera del Dueros and all 70 Riojas they rated during 2010 in the $15-30 price range!

Our price is $19.97 per bottle with $1/bottle shipping on six bottles and Free Shipping on a Case!

Wine Spectator 92 Points -- Toasty, smoky aromas give way to deep, focused flavors of black cherry, mineral, licorice and mountain herb in this expressive red. Powerful yet focused, ripe yet fresh. Drink now through 2020. 15,000 cases made. -TM
