Antonio Galloni Calls This “A Back Up the Truck Wine”

2006 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

The Produttori del Barbaresco decided not to bottle any Riserva in 2006, so in 2009 they began blending the wine destined for Riserva into their regular bottling. Antonio Galloni of the Wine Advocate recently detailed this on the bulletin board on eRobertParker.com, "Lots that start with 2010 include 50% Riserva juice. Lots that start with 09 and are under 120 have 0% Riserva juice, lots above 09.120 include 30% Riserva juice. The first two numbers are the year, the second number is the calendar day... At Produttori each bottling day is assigned a lot number, but there are in reality only three unique 'lots' in the sense most commonly used."

Here’s what Antonio Galloni said about the 2006 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco that didn't have any Riserva blended in, “If there is a better bottle of age worthy red wine from anywhere in the world sub $30 I would like to know about it. This is a back up the truck wine and a fabulous effort from the Produttori.” Just imagine how much better the lots from 2010 are with 50% of the Riserva in the blend now.

We just received a new shipment of 2006 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco the first week of June with lots 10,155 and 10,161. Bottled on the 155th and 161st day of 2010. We believe these may be the last lots of the 06 vintage. We have it on sale for $26.97 per bottle, with an added bonus of shipping for just $1 per bottle on orders of six bottles or more. The time is now to back up the truck!

Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate 92 Points-- The 2006 Barbaresco is a gorgeous, generous Barbaresco loaded with ripe dark fruit. This is an especially harmonious, refined Barbaresco from the Produttori that is also somewhat unusual for its dark, brooding personality. Licorice, leather and tar linger on the powerful finish. Today the wine is remarkable for its depth and concentration, while the aromatic complexity will develop in bottle. If the regular Barbaresco holds this much power, I can only wonder what the Riservas might have in store. Simply put, this is a marvelous effort. This is Lot 9.125 Anticipated maturity: 2011-2031.
