2008 Robert Foley The Griffin - Robert Parker 93 Points

“The 2008 The Griffin is something new, an homage to Ireland consisting of 42% Petite Sirah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Charbono, and 8% Merlot. Beautiful black raspberry, blueberry, spicy, peppery fruit jump from the glass of this dense purple wine. Foley has somehow built considerable sweet tannin into the full-bodied, fleshy mouthfeel. This is something California needs to do more of – creative blends that are loaded with personality and soul. This wine is part Rhone Ranger and part classic Napa Cabernet. Drink it over the next decade. “

2007 Vina Alicia Malbec Las Compuertas - Wine Advocate 93 Points

“The 2007 Malbec, sourced from ungrafted vines with an average age of over 100 years. It was aged for 12 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it displays a brooding nose of wood smoke, graphite, spice box, black cherry, and plum. Medium- to full-bodied, dense opulent, and rich on the palate, it has incipient complexity, superb grip and concentration, and a lengthy finish. It will benefit from 3-4 years of additional cellaring and offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2022.”
