2007 Losada Bierzo -- Free Shipping on a 6-pack
The region of Bierzo produces high quality wines that show a great balance between purity of fruit and terroir.
Bierzo is situated in the northwestern portion of Spain in the mountains between Castilla y Leon and Galicia. The prominent grape in Bierzo is Mencia, which has similar aromatics and mouth-feel to that of Pinot Noir - though wines from Bierzo will be a bit more full-bodied than most Pinot Noir that sell in the same price range.
This wine is a great find and we highly recommend it - see reviews below.
Jay Miller Wine Advocate 90 Points -- Losada is produced from 50- to 80-year-old hillside vines in Bierzo and aged for nine months in new French oak. Purple in color with a nose of mineral, roasted herbs, game, and floral aromas, this extracted, rich,full-flavored wine over-delivers in a big way. It should evolve for 1-2 years and drink well through 2015 but it can be enjoyed now.
International Wine Cellar 90 Points -- Deep, vivid ruby. Aromas of blackberry, cola and spicy dark chocolate. Tactile, dense and sweet but with a light touch, showing good energy to its dark berry, spice and licorice flavors. The finish features livelier red berry character and leaves notes of candied licorice and cola behind.
