If ever there was a week for Bordeaux-lovers to consider an affair with a different appellation, this is it. The prices for 2008 First Growth Bordeaux were released last week; they're being sold for about $200 a bottle on Futures. The wines are in barrel and won't be released until 2011 and the vintage is.. average. At the same time, the 2006 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia has been released. The price is $139.99 per bottle, the wine is in the store tomorrow, and the vintage is exceptional, scored 97 points by the Wine Advocate. Who knows what the Wine Spectator will give it when their ratings come out? Needless to say, we passed on the 2008 First Growths and instead invested in the 2006 Ornellaia.
