Petrolo's Torrione is always one of the most anticipated Tuscan releases each year. And for a good reason: despite great reviews and scores in the nineties, it has maintained a price of $30-35 for several vintages. The 2007 vintage scored the highest rating from the Wine Spectator since 1997: 94 points! This is definitely one of those wines that drinks more like something nearly double its price.
The Torrione 2007 is made primarily from Sangiovese grapes from an area just outside Chianti Classico in Tuscany. The 2007 Torrione is spectacular with awesome concentration and that typical silkiness that Torrione normally shows. It's full-bodied Tuscan red that could easily rival a Brunello (also made from 100% Sanigovese).

Clear and precise, with beautiful aromas of plum, berries and chocolate. Full-bodied and refined, with a dense yet elegant palate of plum, chocolate and cherry. Long and caressing. Wonderfully polished. Very fine. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best after 2010. 3,750 cases made.-JS
