Neighbor To Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte

2008 Chateau Le Thil Comte Clary Pessac Leognan
$1 per Bottle Shipping on a Case

The prices of many of the top classified Bordeaux continue to skyrocket, yet there is still plenty of Bordeaux in the marketplace today that offers great value!

In the May 31st issue of the Wine Spectator there was an article "Values Across Bordeaux" which focused on several of these Bordeaux that over-deliver for the money. One of the featured wines was the 2008 Chateau Le Thil Comte Clary, which scored 91 points.

Chateau Le Thil Comte Clary is ideally situated in between Carbonnieux and Smith Haut Lafitte. Superstar Bordeaux winemaker, Stephane Derononcourt, consults for Le Thil Comte Clary.

The Wine Spectator commented about Chateau Le Thil Comte Clary that “the 2008 is one of the sleepers of the vintage.” They couldn’t be more right.

Our price is $19.98 per bottle with a $1 per bottle shipping on a Case!

Wine Spectator 91 Points-- This bold red delivers big, ripe flavors of blackberry and boysenberry, with licorice, tobacco and dark chocolate notes. The tannins are muscular and chewy, but give way to floral and mineral on the fresh, clean finish. Best from 2014 through 2022. 3,750 cases made. -TM

A French Rose With An Amazing Pedigree Behind It

2010 Domaine de Triennes Rosé
$1 per Bottle Shipping on 6, Free Shipping on Case

We recently tasted the 2010 Domaine de Triennes Rosé from Provence in France and it was remarkable. It’s no surprise given the pedigree behind the wine. It is jointly owned by Jacques Seysses, founder of Domaine Dujac, and Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée Conti.

The 2010 Domaine de Triennes Rosé is outstanding! Tons of white peaches and minerals with plenty of length and very elegant and smooth finish.

It also received a 90 point score from John Dawson, a founder of the Sonoma Wine Journal, a publication primarily devoted to Sonoma wines, but they do sometimes review wines they find of special merit from outside the borders of Sonoma, like his note on the Domaine de Triennes Rosé. He said, “Buy it by the case and thank me later” and we agree!

A price is just $12.97 per bottle on sale with $1 per bottle shipping on six bottles and Free Shipping on a Case!

John Bernard Dawson, Sonoma Wine Journal 90+ Points-- Textbook ballet slipper pink. Alpine strawberry aromas are airy and light, backed by a hint of peach and watermelon. Fine acidity on the entry, where the ruby grapefruit and fraises de bois flavors are clean, elegant, and very dry. Light bodied. Exquisite balance. This is produced by a joint venture that includes Aubert de Villaine of the legendary Domaine Romanee Conti and the Seysses family of Domaine Dujac, and the proof is in the high quality of this wine, which is quite worthy of a purchase by the case. 13% alc. Drink now...90+

Jon Visser, Wine Buyer 4 Stars-- Plenty of peach on the nose. On the palate more of the nose with lots of white peach flavor, some subtle red fruits, and minerals with plenty of length and very elegant, smooth finish. There’s a ton of finesse in this wine yet loads of flavor as well. This is one of those Rosés that you have a glass and then another and before you know it the bottle is empty.

Best Value Premier Cru Red Burgundy From 2009

2009 Jean Jacques Girard Savigny les Beaune Les Lavieres
Free Shipping on Three or More, PLUS $10 off Coupon on Six, $30 off Coupon on a Case!

We first discovered Jean Jacques Girard with the 2008 vintage of this same wine. The 90 point score given to the 2008 by Allen Meadows, the Burghound, caught our eye. We bought all we could, and it didn’t last all that long in the store. We pre-ordered the 2009 almost immediately upon selling out of the 2008.

The 2009 Jean Jacques Girard Savigny les Beaune Les Lavieres recently did get reviewed by the Burghound, and this time it received a 92 point score along with Allen’s high praise, “Sweet Spot - Outstanding” added to the tasting note. With the 92 point score, the 2009 Savigny les Beaune Les Lavieres was his best value premier cru red Burgundy!

Savigny les Beaune is sandwiched between Beaune and the Grand Cru vineyards of Corton. Because of this, the wines are sometimes unfairly overlooked, but luckily for you, in turn, they offer tremendous value! The vines for the Jean Jacques Les Lavieres are an average of 50 years old.

You will be hard pressed to find another premier cru red Burgundy from 2009 at just $34.99 per bottle. With the added bonus of Free Shipping on just three bottles PLUS an additional $10 off on 6, or $30 off on a case when you use the coupon codes 10OFFGIRARD or 30OFFGIRARD this is an unbeatable deal.

Burghound 92 Points Sweet Spot - Outstanding-- While not the most elegant wine in the range, this is the most complex with a superb nose of blue berry liqueur, spiced plum and stone. The very ripe yet fresh flavors are at once energetic and seductive, all wrapped in a firm, minerally and beautifully well-balanced finish. Lovely juice.

The 2008 Insignia Ranks Among The Best Phelps Has Produced

2008 Joseph Phelps Insignia – PRE ARRIVAL

Robert Parker said, “the 2007 and 2008 Insignias may be the best back-to-back vintages they have produced since 1995 and 1994” and the good news is that the price of 2008 Joseph Phelps Insignia is actually lower than the 2007. Yes, that’s right, a premier wine that actually went down in price!

Take advantage of the great 2008 Joseph Phelps Insignia at a discount from the previous vintage. This is a pre-arrival offer with the estimated delivery in September. The price is $135.00 per bottle on sale.

ARRIVAL EXPECTED SEPTEMBER 2011

Robert Parker 95-97 Points-- The blend of the 2008 Insignia, 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot, is not terribly different from the 2007. However, I suspect the production will be a lot less given the frost damage in early spring. The color is an inky/purple and the wine shows lots of cassis, blueberry, graphite and floral notes, good acidity, stunning concentration and purity, and a long finish. Another great success for Phelps, the 2007 and 2008 Insignias may be the best back-to-back vintages they have produced since 1995 and 1994. The 2008 has some tannins to resolve whereas the 2007 has already assimilated them. It appears the 2008 will require 2-3 years of bottle age, but should last for three decades.

James Suckling 95 Points-- What a wonderful wine here. The nose shows a fabulous combination of dark fruits, chocolate, spices and caramel. The palate is silky textured with lots of ripe yet beautiful fruit and super silky, tight tannins This is a balanced wine with all the potential to age for decades. Made from 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot.

Great Deal Including Special Coupons on 6 Pack and a Cas

2007 Christian Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Close
Free Shipping on Three or More, PLUS $24 off Coupon on Six, $84 off Coupon on a Case!

It’s not everyday you have an opportunity to acquire a Grand Cru white Burgundy from a top producer for $49.99! Let alone it being the 2007 Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos which garnered a 94 point score from the Wine Spectator and a 93 from Burghound.

We’re offering the 2007 Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos at $49.99 per bottle! The lowest price anywhere! Others are selling this for as high as $80!

We’ve thrown in FREE SHIPPING on just 3 bottles! Also, as a bonus, we’re offering you coupons worth $24 off on a six pack and $84 off on a Case!

Wine Spectator 94 Points-- A flinty, steely style, featuring aromas and flavors of oyster shell, apple, lemon and, above all, mineral. Firm and slightly austere, yet balanced and long on the aftertaste. No other white smells like this. Best from 2011 through 2023. 375 cases imported. –BS

International Wine Cellar 93 Points-- Pale, bright yellow. Knockout nose projects lemon oil, crushed stone, spices and minerals. As creamy as this is in the mouth, it's most notable for its sheer energy and verve, with lemon and crushed stone flavors that pulsate in the middle palate and on the very long aftertaste. A classic vintage for this wine. Christian Moreau reminded me that the family's major parcel of Clos goes from the bottom to the top of this grand cru. Fabien does three different vinifications before blending the lots at the end. Part of this cuvee went back into barrels for five months following the racking after the malolactic fermentation.

Burghound 93 Points-- This is perhaps the most aromatically elegant wine in the range today with its airy, pure and layered nose of white flower, lemon peel, hint of wood spice, white peach and oyster shell nuances that seem even stronger on the impressively scaled broad-shouldered flavors that possess a beguiling texture as well as an almost painfully intense, palate staining finish that is bone dry. In a word, gorgeous.

Among The Very Best Wines In The Store $20-30

2008 Vina Alicia Malbec Las Compuertas
Free Shipping on All Orders of Six or More Bottles

One of our top new arrivals in the store in the $20-30 range is the 2008 Vina Alicia Las Compuertas Malbec from the Lujan de Cuyo in Argentina.

The Las Compuertas Malbec is sourced from vines that are up to 150 years old. It spends twelve months in new French oak. There are only 700 cases produced of this micro cuvee which sounds more like the production numbers of a cult California wine, instead of an Argentinean wine selling for $25.

Vina Alicia Las Compuertas Malbec is a blockbuster. Great concentration and structure with lots of blackberries on the mid-palate and layers and layers of cassis fruit on the long finish.

The price is just $23.88 per bottle on sale, with Free Shipping on six or more bottles!

Jay Miller Wine Advocate 92 Points-- The 2008 Malbec (100%) spent 12 months in new French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports a nose of wood smoke, Asian spices, incense, lavender, and black cherry. Concentrated and intense on the palate with layers of fruit and excellent volume, this mouth-filling effort will evolve for several years and provide peak drinking from 2012 to 2020.

The Heathcote region in Australian in gaining recognition for having some of the best soil for growing Shiraz in all of Australia. The vineyards in the area are planted on soils formed from the weathering of Cambrian period rock that is over five hundred million years old. The Shiraz produced in this region are generally very deep in color with ripe black fruits. Even the world renowned Michel Chapoutier has invested in vineyards in the Heathcote area with a wine he calls Cambrien which sells for $60.

We discovered a great little value, the 2008 Cooralook Shiraz from the Heathcote region. It scored 90 points in both the Wine Spectator and the Wine Advocate. It was also the Wine Spectator’s daily pick for the $15-30 range on May 17th, 2011.

Our price for the 2008 Cooralook Shiraz Heathcote is just $12.97 per bottle on sale with $1 per bottle shipping on six and Free Shipping on a Case!

Lisa Perrotti Brown Wine Advocate 90 Points-- The 2008 Shiraz gives a deep garnet-purple color and aromas of warm blackberries, black raspberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and cumin seeds, plus a whiff of star anise. Crisp acid and a medium level of rounded tannins structure the generously fruited, full bodied palate, giving a long harmonious finish. It is ideal for drinking now if you enjoy primary freshness, or cellar to 2016 for a less fruity, spicier expression.

Wine Spectator 90 Points-- Supple in texture and generous in flavor, with cherry and spice notes playing against mineral character as the medium-weight finish folds them all together. Drink now through 2016. 10,000 cases made. -HS

Wine Enthusiast 95 Points-- Impossibly intense and rich, Giusto di Notri is a compelling blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that takes brutal hold of your senses thanks to its amazing density and texture. The long list of aromas generated here includes black cherry, spice, tobacco and cola and the wine glides in excruciating slow motion over the palate.

Wine Spectator 93 Points-- Complex aromas of black currant, mineral and dried herbs follow through to a full body, with silky, racy tannins and a long finish. Coffee and toasty oak character. Turns to raspberry jam. Needs time to mellow. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best after 2010. 2,000 cases made.–JS

Robert Parker— “Reminiscent of the 1982 Pichon Lalande”

2003 Chateau Pichon Lalande
$1 per Bottle Shipping on Six Bottles or More

There’s been a lot of chatter on the web about how well the 2003 Pichon Lalande is drinking right now. It’s probably no surprise to Robert Parker since he called it “reminiscent of the 1982 Pichon Lalande” and mentioned in his tasting note from 2006 that it could be drunk then or cellared for 20 years or more. Five years later and it’s right in the sweet spot for drinking.

We just received a new shipment of properly stored 2003 Chateau Pichon Lalande in their original wood cases. They are in pristine condition. Our price is $139.99 per bottle!

The pricing for the 2010 vintage of Pichon Lalande was just released by the Chateau this morning. The price is 227.99 per bottle and it scored 92-95+ from Robert Parker. The 2009 vintage is currently selling for 199.99 per bottle.

The 2003 Chateau Pichon Lalande is still a $139.99 bottle, but it is at a 30-40% discount compared to 2009 and 2010. We think this is a great deal on a 2nd growth from a great vintage, with great reviews, that can be drunk now.

Robert Parker 95 Points-- The brilliant, opulent, fleshy 2003 Pichon Lalande (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot) possesses a high pH of 3.8 as well as 13% alcohol. Reminiscent of the 1982 Pichon Lalande (which never shut down and continues to go from strength to strength), the dense plum/purple-colored 2003 offers gorgeous aromas of blackberries, plum liqueur, sweet cherries, smoke, and melted licorice. Fleshy, full-bodied, and intense, displaying a seamless integration of wood, acidity, tannin, and alcohol, this beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 20 years or more.

Wine Spectator 93 Points-- Very pretty aromas of plum, blackberry, chocolate, espresso and cherry follow through to a full-bodied palate, with ultrasilky tannins, refined fruit and a long, caressing finish. This is fine and refined with a wonderful texture. Not quite the 2000, but excellent. Best after 2011. 18,330 cases made. -JS

International Wine Cellar 93 Points-- Good deep red. Flamboyantly expressive aromas of raspberry, currant, earth, smoked meat, chocolate and pepper. Fat, full and voluptuous yet somehow light on its feet. This has a texture of liquid velvet. Wonderfully opulent wine with considerable inner-palate flavor complexity: raspberry, game, leather, mocha and chocolate. Finishes with very fine-grained tannins that coat the entire palate. A wonderful success for the year, and a wine that can be enjoyed already, even if its sheer material promises 15 to 20 years of life in bottle.

The Wine Spectator's Top Rated 2009 Gruner Veltliner Under $20

2009 Birgit Eichinger Gruner Veltliner Wechselberg
$1 per Bottle Shipping on 6, Free Shipping on Case

Gruner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria. Famed as one of the most versatile white wines in the world, it can match a wide range of foods from vegetables all the way up to grilled meats. The typical flavor profile of Gruner is plenty of citrus fruit, spice, and white pepper, backed with refreshing acidity. Gruner Veltliner is also known to be one of the only wines that can handle the sworn enemy of wine, Asparagus. Yes, that’s right, a wine to complement Asparagus.

The best region in Austria for growing Gruner Veltliner is a series of three adjoining small valleys, the Wachau, Kremstal, and Kamptal. We just brought in a new Gruner Veltliner from the Kamptal, produced by one from one of Austria's star producers, Birgit Eichinger, with fruit from thirty year old vines in the Wechselberg vineyard.

With its 91 point score the Birgit Eichinger Gruner Veltliner Wechselberg is the Wine Spectator’s highest rated 2009 Gruner Veltliner under $20.

One Of The Greatest Producers In All Of Gigondas

2009 St Damien Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes
$1 per Bottle Shipping on 6, Free Shipping on Case

Domaine Saint Damien in Gigondas is fast becoming recognized as one of the best in the southern Rhone Valley. Saint Damien's 2007 wines were spectacular with their three Gigondas cuvees each receiving scores of 95 or better.

Robert Parker’s comments on the producer say it all.

“Proprietor Joel Saurel, backed up by the inimitable Philippe Cambie as his consultant, has transformed this estate into one of the greatest in Gigondas, rivaling the two top producers, Yves Gras’ Santa Duc and Louis Barruol’s Saint Cosme. This estate made mind-boggling 2007s, and has followed that up with top-flight 2009s. The two value wines are nearly as good as their more expensive cuvees of Gigondas, which tells you just how impressive this estate is.”

They also produce a great Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes made from 50 year old vines, which received 90 points in 2007, and again in the very challenging 2008 vintage. Robert Parker referred to their Cotes du Rhone as "...stunning, value priced Cotes du Rhone which readers should be buying by the trunkful."

The 2009 Domaine St Damien Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes just arrived in our stores. Robert Parker rated this cuvee at 91-92 points. Get your trunkful today!

A top flight value from a great producer at just $14.99 per bottle on sale with $1 per bottle shipping on six bottles and Free shipping on a Case!

Robert Parker 91-92 Points-- The 2009 Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes is 90% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre and Carignan, aged in cement tank and tipping the scales at 14.8% alcohol. The average age of the vines, from the stony soils of the Plan de Dieu, is 50 years. This is another full-bodied, superbly concentrated wine with the classic black cherry marmalade/kirsch notes intermixed with licorice, spring flowers, pepper, and a hint of garrigue. This ripe, full-bodied wine is opulent, voluptuously textured, long and rich. Both of these wines over-deliver significantly for an appellation as humble as the Cotes du Rhone, but that is the great beauty of this vast area of southern France.

Wine Advocate’s Highest Rated Penfolds St Henri Ever

2006 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz
Free Shipping on All Orders of Six or More Bottles

Penfolds, the iconic Australian winery, considers their St Henri Shiraz to be the ‘alter-ego” of the Penfolds Grange label. Both wines are a blend of Shiraz with a little bit of Cabernet Sauvignon blended in. The difference, besides the vineyard sources, is that the St Henri is aged in old 1460-liter vats instead of the new oak aging for the Grange, preserving more pure Shiraz flavors in the wine.

In our eyes the Penfolds St Henri Shiraz represents the finest value of their premium tier bottlings. The 2006 may be their finest St Henri to date. The Wine Advocate’s 95+ point score for the 2006 vintage is the highest rating they have ever awarded to the Penfolds St Henri Shiraz.

A top bottling from a great producer! We’re offering the 2006 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz at a special price of $46.99 per bottle with Free Shipping on six or more bottles!

Wine Advocate 95+ Points-- Blended of 89% Shiraz and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2006 St Henri Shiraz is a blend of 5 different South Australia sub-regions spanning from Robe to Clare Valley. Never seeing new oak, this vintage was aged 15 months in seasoned 1460 liter vats. Very deep garnet-purple colored, it has a purely fruited nose giving notes of intense cassis, crushed blackberries, some kirsch, black pepper, baking spices and cloves. Full, rich and concentrated, it’s still a bit taut with very crisp acid and firm finely textured tannins, giving a long berry laced finish. Consider drinking it from 2013 to 2025+

Wine Spectator 93 Points-- Supple and generous, delivering a plush mouthful of vibrant blueberry, plum and wet earth flavors that play against a distinct minerality. The vivid finish hints at tea leaf. Drink now through 2018.
